Shipping large musical instruments presents a unique logistical challenge. In addition to the typical challenges of an object their size, they’re also highly sensitive to vibration and environmental changes during transit. Ensuring that they arrive safely requires careful preparation & specialized packaging, which are keys to any crating project at Commerce Packaging.
We recently shipped a marimba, which arrived with seven manufacturer-supplied padded cases designed specifically to protect each part of the instrument. These cases significantly increased durability during travel and provided an ideal foundation for protective crating.
To further protect the marimba during shipment, we constructed a custom wooden crate with plywood, built to our usual high standards. The crate provided generous interior space to accommodate the padded instrument cases without compressing them.
Inside the crate, our team applied careful blocking and bracing along with multiple layers of 1/4” bubble wrap to create additional cushioning and density. This approach ensured the instrument components remained secure and protected from vibration throughout the journey.
